Introduction: The Educated Nanny

Hello everybody.  My name is Jen and I have been working as a nanny for 10 years.  I started nannying while I was in college.  The first family I worked for had a 5 year old girl and 8 year old boy.  I cannot believe that they are now in high school and college!  I went to Sacred Heart University for my Bachelors in psychology and Masters in Elementary Education and New York University for my masters in Social Work.  While I worked hard in college and grad school searching for a future career I always loved working with children in their home environments as a nanny.

There is a stigma that goes along with being a nanny.  When I was working as a social worker I told my supervisor I wanted to be a nanny and she said to me, ” Why would you want to do that?  You don’t want to be someone’s help.”  I have a few family members that say to me, “When are you going to get a real job.”  I also have a few others that roll their eyes and smirk when I say that I am a nanny.  I have created this blog to prove and show that being a  nanny is a real job for someone with an education.

**I have worked with children of all ages and will write posts that pertain to different age groups, however I am currently a nanny for a 1 year old girl named “J”.  “J” has an infant brother (who is 2 weeks old) named “R”.  At this time I am not caring for “R” but I may mention him in posts occasionally.

I will be posting my experiences, tips and advice, developmental stages, indoor and out door activities for all ages…etc.

Thanks for following my blog!

**UPDATE 8/3/13:  my summer position with J has ended and I have a new position.  I will be working with a 2 year old girl named E and a 4 month old boy named W. So excited for this new adventure!
